Cables

Damn, but I wish I was at Stitch-n-Bitch tonight!

I'm trying to make a cabled scarf from this gorgeous wool/linen yarn that I picked up at Heindselmans, and I'm having trouble.

When I unwrapped the yarn, I discovered that it is spun thick and thin. (There's probably a technical term for this, but I'll be damned if I know what it is) Undaunted, I plunge right in.

First off, you'd think I'd have the sense to do something simple. But no, once again, I've decided to design my own pattern while learning a new technique.

So, I decided to do a cable that opens and closes again on a moss stitch background.

Is this going to work? There's a part of me that thinks, "oh, it'll be rustic" and another part that thinks it's going to look like something the cat coughed up.

I realize the resolution isn't that great, but here's where I am now. Thoughts?

p.s. those gorgeous stitch markers were a gift from the lovely Marlene!

Joss Whedon, you need to call me

Any time I start feeling adrift, unmotivated, or depressed, all I have to do is watch the special features on any one of my favorite movies or TV shows.

Today, it's Firefly. Fucking brilliant. The chance to work on a show like that? A dream come true.

I do think it's telling, however, that Joss rarely pays any tribute to his costume designers. I can think of only two reasons for this: either a) he's a total dick (do I mean dictator?) to his costume designers, and doesn't have the collaboration with them that he has with other members of his creative team, or b) he hasn't worked with me yet.

I think b.

Of course, I have my own geniuses. Among the brilliant minds I've been privileged to work with:

The dreamy Alveraz Ricardez, who is not only gorgeous, brilliant, and inspired, but a joy to work with as well. We're going to (finally) finish shooting The Tailor next month, and I can't wait to be on set with that talented, dedicated cast and crew again.

Speaking of brilliant, I worked on a pilot with Randy Bookman and Gerry Santos. We're in post, and the details are under wraps, but if all goes well, I could possibly be drawing a paycheck from George Lucas. (yes, that George Lucas) It's a good dream.

Don't feel threatened, though, Joss. I'll still take your call.

Beer, and finishing the hat

I haven't had a beer since I moved to Utah, folks. It's been over two months. Today I finally decided I couldn't take it anymore, and I broke down and bought a six-pack of Squatters Full Suspension Pale Ale when I was at Target. Then I wrapped it in two Target bags and put it in the back of my basement fridge, in the hopes that no one will see it and become apoplectic.

It's not too bad. I somehow bumped it after my first sip and spilled half on my shirt, so I feel totally justified in opening the second one.

Plus, I finished my first hat this morning while watching Firefly! Vivien just brought it to me, reminding me that I should take a picture and figure out how to post it. And look! There it is! (I hope)

Next: Figuring out how to add embedded links!

The phone rings

Every time the phone rings, I hope it's work, calling to tell me not to come in.

It's not that I hate my job that much, it's just that I have so many things I'd rather be doing.

For example, there's the hat I'm knitting for my brother, and intarsia to learn, and the leg warmers I'm knitting for my sister, and Fair Isle to learn, and the scarf I'm knitting for my friend's daughter, and cables to learn, and the coasters I'm felting for my mom, and sock knitting to learn, and...ummmm

Okay, I think somewhere in there is supposed to be sleep, eat, and feed the cats.

And if I was really cool, I could figure out how to link to all of the afore-mentioned projects.

Sigh. I'm late for work.
